Favorite Songs and Hymns

What does it mean to be “like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind?” What does it mean to “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others?”

It means adoring Christ above all else and loving our neighbor as ourselves.

One way that Christians worship Christ and submit to one another in love is by singing each others’ songs. Hymn lovers are blessed when they sing contemporary songs. Praise song lovers are blessed when they sing the old hymns. All churches are blessed when they sing songs from other cultures and traditions.

Here is a list of favorite songs gathered at our last worship service. Imagine how this list would be different if the kids added their favorite camp songs. Imagine how this list would be different if our neighbors showed up to contribute to the list. Imagine how this list would be different if the other groups that use our worship space added their favorite songs. It would certainly better reflect the Beloved Community extolled by Rev. Dr. King!

Take a look at the following songs. Sing with gusto when you get to sing the song of a friend from a different generation! You will be blessed and you will be a blessing!

Housing Needed

Nick Albano, a family friend of Covenant pastor and former RECC member Craig Pinley, is a junior at DePaul University who is seeking housing on the North Side. He is on the club rowing team, so being near DePaul is important. If you know someone who could house Nick for the 2015-16 school year, please contact the church office at 773-784-7091 or at office@ravenscov.org.

"With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade." (Mark 4:30-32 NRS)
